History Of A Western PA Bridal Store
Our story began in 1991 when the Pederson family acquired A Tiny store called Modern Bride.
The original 2,000 sq ft location had just two employees, 20 wedding dresses, and 25 bridesmaid dresses and a handful of mothers dresses. Our entire first month sales were less than what we do now in an average hour. We grew very quickly after, leading to two store expansions that almost doubled floor space. The early days weren’t without obstacles, though. The owners of Modern Bride Magazine sued us for using “their” name so we changed to MB Bride & Special Occasion around 1995. What does MB stand for? We weren’t quite sure ourselves at the time but it just seemed to work. Eventually, we decided that it stands for “Most Beautiful” Bride!
By 2004 MB Bride prepared to keep up with its growing reputation.
The business grew to the point where customers would turn around and leave when seeing such a crowded place. So we crossed our fingers and took a much larger risk than we had ever contemplated by purchasing and renovating the old Greensburg Lumber store; a building that is eight times the size of our original store! Fortunately, the store prospered even more than planned with customers coming from other states. Our MB Prom Store was added in 2006, along with an expanded alterations department and an innovative gown storage system. In 2012 a dozen new fitting rooms were added throughout the store, the alterations department was redesigned to better serve both our customers and our expert associates.
Around 2016 we got a new phone system, new computer system, and fully renovated our entire downstairs area, adding a new main desk area, revamped tuxedo store, and enlarged bridal and mothers dress departments along with new carpet throughout. In 2019 we completely renovated and expanded MB Prom with new carpet, colors, lights, added fitting rooms and new main counter area. In 2020, we added a new main counter area in our alterations department with a higher ceiling and more computers. In late 2022 we re-did our entire bridal, mothers, and maids areas with new colors, new lighting, and a clean, modern and elegant decor. We even enlarged our one-of-a-kind personal bridal showrooms. We are constantly changing for the better, with more improvements on the way!
Today, MB Bride & Special Occasion has gained national recognition.
We now offer over 650 bridal dresses, over 750 bridesmaid dresses, 325 plus mothers dresses, and dozens of flowergirl dresses. Our expert bridal consultants travel to Chicago, New York, Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, and other cities at the center of the industry to meet with cutting edge designers and learn about fabrics, construction, and the newest style trends. The experts guiding your experience are even invited to critique and help create major designer lines. After all, they know many of the industry’s leading designers personally.
While we look back and truly feel blessed, we also look forward to the future. We are always looking for ways to improve our business and recently have added an all new computer system including the hardware. We installed new lighting, and this website is new. We have many more projects in the planning to further upgrade your experience in our store.
While MB Bride has experienced much change in the last three decades, our commitment to our customers and our desire to lead the industry remains as strong as the day we opened our doors 32 years ago.
